LAANC & B4UFLY

Airspace Link is an FAA-approved UAS Service Supplier of the Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability (LAANC) and is approved to provide B4UFLY Services.

LAANC and B4UFLY are integrated services in the AirHub Portal application. LAANC and B4UFLY are collaborations with the FAA and private industry, like Airspace Link, to safely integrate drones into the national airspace system. AirHub® Portal provides airspace authorizations to both Part 107 Pilots and Recreational Flyers.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is LAANC?: LAANC is the Low Altitude Authorization and Notification Capability, a collaboration between the FAA and Industry. LAANC directly supports UAS integration into the airspace. Specifically, LAANC provides drone pilots with access to controlled airspace at or below 400 feet, awareness of where pilots can and cannot fly, and air traffic professionals with visibility into where and when drones are operating.
What is B4UFLY?: B4UFLY is available to the public and is designed to help recreational drone flyers understand important safety and airspace information prior to flight. Recreational Flyers must operate below 400 feet at all times.
B4UFLY displays controlled and uncontrolled airspace, maximum authorized altitudes near airports, restricted or prohibited airspace and other important safety information.
How do I just check my airspace and fly?: First click the Discover tab.

Zoom into your exact location using the crosshair icon in the lower left.

This will drop a point and give you information on Flight operations.

Alternatively, search for an address or coordinates using the Search Magnifying Glass in the upper right.

Or pan and zoom using the typical pinch and scroll method on your mobile device or by using the plus and minus buttons on the desktop version.
What do the advisory icons mean?: Clear to Fly

The icon is green, and in this area you are clear to fly up to 400' without any further requirements.

Get Approval

The icon is yellow and indicates that you are in LAANC-controlled airspace and will need to get LAANC approval (it's automatic) to fly there.

Note: To create an operation and receive LAANC approval, you will have to sign up for a free Portal account and be signed in to complete the operation request.

Do Not Fly

The icon is red and indicates that flight is restricted in this area and that no one may fly a UAS in this area.
How are flights approved?: This depends on when and where you're flying. Your desired altitude and the operation location will affect the types of operations you may submit. In many cases, you may qualify for authorization in near real-time.

Alternatively, your operation may require further coordination. This means an Air Traffic Manager will need to manually approve the operation before it's legal to fly. You may request both authorization types up to 90 days in advance. In both cases, you can use our simple web planning tools in AirHub Portal to plan and submit your operation.

Where LAANC is not available, pilots are encouraged to use FAADroneZone.
Do I need all this if I fly Recreationally?: All Recreational Flyers must pass the TRUST Safety Test and register their drone if it weighs more than 0.55 lbs. (250 grams). Recreational flyers must operate below 400' AGL. If your drone is registered, it must be Remote ID compatible. Additionally, recreational flyers must request airspace authorization if operating in controlled airspace. B4UFLY services within AirHub Portal is a great airspace awareness tool that indicates where LAANC authorization may be required.
